"CONTROVERSY OVER 'FATWA'!
One of the eighteen resolutions passed by the Muslim Clerics Convention's regarding the "Deoband Fatwa of 2006" has been taken up by vested interests to make much ado about! While the convention has passed another resolution condemning "terrorism" and "Naxal menace", it has been conveniently swept under the carpet!
Now, as never before, it becomes imperative for the ' aam admi' to know all the facts about the new controversy geared up by desperate political parties out to gain political mileage, atleast on that account!
1. In 1937,Indian National Congress discussed at length the status of the Song, "Vande Mataram"
composed by Bankim Chandra Chattapadhyay in 1876! Since all the stanzas of it, except the the first two stanzas, the motherland is likened to the Hindu godess Durga,it was decided to adopt the first two stanzas only, and not the entire song,as the national song!
2.The Constituent Assembly, which drafted the Constitution of Indian republic, during 1947 to 1950,rejected it and adopted Tagore's "Janaganamana" as the NationalAnthem! The reason given was that those who opposed "idol worship",like Muslims, Christians,Sikhs,Aryasamajees
and others felt offended by the depiction of the nation as Mother Durga, a Hindu godess!
3.In 2006 the UP Govt. issued an order making it 'mandatory' on school students to sing "Vande Mataram on 7th December,2006,the'centennial' of that song! When Vajpayeeji's attention was drawn in the parliament to it, he declared in unequivocal terms that the singing should be "Voluntary" 0nly!
In the light of the above incontrovertible facts, the Muslim Clerics Convention has to be faulted for passing a resolution affirming the Fatwa of 2006!And as regards the persons and parties which have made a new controversy over it, it has to be concluded that their contention is untenable, irrelevant and invalid.
